Meet The Minis

Romeo

Romeo

Romeo (mini horse) was the first mini that was trained to be part of the mini therapy program. Romeo is 9 years old and was bought at a kill pen in Pennsylvania. Romeo lives up to his name as he loves the ladies, but he also loves visiting with children in particular. As a matter of fact, during the lockdown time in the pandemic he stayed with a little girl and her family as her very own Pandemic Pony and she was able to ride and love on him every day. That was truly the best therapy in the world during a time when children where really suffering so much.

Pixie

Pixie

Pixie (mini horse) is 7 years old and was a mini we received from another rescue. Pixie was a starvation/neglect case that came to us with a badly injured eye. Once the vet examined her it was obvious that her eye needed to come out. Horses do very well and recovery pretty quickly after this type of surgery but it did take some work with her to get her to trust people again and feel comfortable with things happening on her blind side. Now she is a rock star at our visits and events, and despite Romeo's best efforts is Fluff's girlfriend.

Fluffanutter

Fluffanutter

Fluffanutter (mini horse) is approximately 28 years old (although I feel I have been saying that for a while and Dr. Parrott and I disagree a bit on his age-he thinks he is younger), was one of several miniature horses seized from a difficult situation up in Maine. He was brought to the farm (along with another younger mini) underweight and with an untreated medical condition. After getting his health back on track it was obvious that with his gentle nature, he would make an excellent therapy mini. He has done many visits and is also the official "Pride Pony" for the Town of Swampscott.

Flossy

Flossy (mini donkey) is a 4-year-old mini born to a donkey rescued from a kill pen. She received her name after dental floss was used to stop bleeding from her umbilicus shortly after birth. She is very confident and is the first donkey to walk up to anything newly introduced to the paddock. This makes her a great donkey for our events as she loves adventure. She also loves having her butt scratched and within minutes she will turn her butt to you to invite your scratches. She is the lucky recipient of Bucko’s love, but it is unrequited.

Bucko

Bucko (mini donkey) is a 22-year-old donkey that was saved from a poor living situation where he was alone. He had escaped from his home and found his way to one of the MWAM founders’ front yard and was soon adopted. Bucko is a very gentle, sweet and smart soul. He is a perfect therapy donkey and gets asked to join Christmas and Easter events and is very gentle with the very young, old and sick. He does love Flossy but you can often find him off by himself eating and sleeping. He will bray for you when he wants attention.

Kitty_2.jpg

Kitty

Kitty, a standard size donkey, became known to us when she was rescued from a kill pen. We believe she was born around 2016 judging by her teeth. Soon after her arrival it was clear that she was pregnant. It was an honor to care for her during that time. Donkeys have a 12 to 14-month pregnancy!  Kitty has a wonderful sweet and calm demeanor. She often stands in the background watching the action going on around her but is very approachable. She loves her human time going for a walk, getting grooming, a hoof pick and basic manners training. MWAM had the opportunity to adopt her when the home she was at with her baby, Emma, could no longer care for them. We could not bear to think that they could return to the auction pipeline. MWAM made an important decision after discussion with our board that we would train Kitty for our farm visits and Take the Lead programs. Donations are instrumental in allowing us to expand our herd and give these wonderful donkeys a new chance at life. Please donate to support Kitty and her mission with us.

Emma

Emma, was born on April 16, 2021, with ears as tall has her legs. We can’t imagine that her life may not have been possible if her momma, Kitty, was not rescued from a kill pen. We were lucky to care for and train Emma upon her birth. Kitty trusted us fully and allowed us to handle Emma immediately.  I do believe that this is why both Kitty and Emma are so loving and curious with people. I once read a quote about how donkeys’ ears are so large to allow them to listen to what the world has to say and if we are willing to listen to them, just imagine what they can teach us? This reminds me of Emma. She still requires handling and training, but she is a quick learner, willing to try new things and has taught us so much in the process. She will be a wonderful addition to our herd during farm visits and our Take The Lead programs. Please donate to support Emma and her mission with us.

Pearl

Pearl

Friends of MWAM

Pearl, (mini donkey) is an approximately 4-year old donkey rescued from a kill pen and was very neglected. She had slippered hooves which are still being cared for. The volunteer that cared for Pearl eventually adopted her and she is now the sister of Ginny. Pearl is a friend of MWAM, she is extremely friendly, but has a lot of anxiety, so she does not go on events but greets people happily at the farm.

Ginny, (mini horse) is an approximately 4-year old mini that came to us from a kill pen with double pneumonia. She had a mangy coat, and her life was on the line day to day. The volunteer that cared for Ginny eventually adopted her and she is in great recovering. She now has Pearl as a sister. She is a friend of MWAM and often joins us on events.
